James M. McDonough

Mr. McDonough has practiced creditors rights, bankruptcy, real estate, and construction law since 1990. He has litigated complex cases for corporate clients in state, federal and appellate courts. While representing credit unions, banks, and finance companies, his practice often focuses on Chapter 13, Chapter 7 and non-dischargeability bankruptcy matters, as well as judgment collection, writs of possession, foreclosure, and complicated real estate matters. Mr. McDonough, who also represents building suppliers and contractors, is well versed in construction law, including mechanics liens and other contractor and property owner disputes.

In addition, he is very experienced in transaction work including commercial and residential real estate loan closings, title insurance, loan work outs, and forbearance agreements. He is also very knowledgeable regarding the uniform commercial code, secured transactions, and motor vehicle title lien law.

Mr. McDonough is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, the Western and Eastern Districts of Kentucky, and the Southern District of Indiana. He earned his law degree from Emory University and an MBA from Georgia State University. He also received a bachelor of science from Indiana University.

He has taught business law college classes and has conducted numerous creditors rights and real estate seminars for the Louisville Bar Association, National Business Institute and Loriman Legal Education. When not practicing law, Mr. McDonough is an active Boy Scout leader for his two young sons, and is an avid college basketball fan.
